The Caren III

Caren lives in a JASA housing development known as a Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC). She’s always known it as home - she was born and raised in her family's apartment, and when her mother retired and relocated to Virginia, she gifted it to Caren. 

Caren leads chair yoga and African dance classes for residents in her building. Caren credits JASA's group programming for providing opportunities to build a sense of community. She can now recognize more of her neighbors, whereas before she would only pass by familiar faces.

Caren describes her JASA NORC director as a "fairy godfather" who goes above and beyond to assist the community. Caren remains an engaged member leading exercise classes, attending book club meetings, and serving on the Advisory Council to support community demands.
