The Joan II

Joan is 80 years old and lives in one of JASA's affordable senior housing buildings. She is very content with her lovely apartment, which has a breathtaking view of the beach. Joan enjoys being close to shops and a pharmacy, and she appreciates the JASA staff downstairs who are always ready to help her when needed. Joan is fond of her big family and often visited her sister in happier times. She is the youngest of six siblings.

Joan shares a close bond with her son, Patrick. Previously, he used to visit her twice a week and take her out for dinner. However, during the pandemic and the need for social distancing, Patrick was unable to visit Joan at her residence. This has caused concern and fear for both of them, as they worried about the impact of isolation and the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Joan's neighborhood. To ensure Joan's well-being, Patrick relied on JASA housing staff to check on his mother and provide the necessary support.
