Phyllis decided to retire after the pandemic hit. She was looking for ways to stay active and discovered a JASA center nearby. She joined in March of last year and has been able to explore new hobbies. Phyllis loves getting creative in macrame by designing handbags. She is also involved in yoga and exercise classes with Cynthia to keep moving. Phyllis instantly felt a connection with Cynthia through her positive energy while teaching about the history and meanings of the moves. The days Phyllis is there, she also picks up lunch at the center.
“I feel like a kid again. I just feel renewed, I feel lighter. I don’t rush, I take my time.”
To Phyllis, retirement means a new beginning where she feels like a kid again. She feels renewed, relaxed, and at her own pace. Through JASA, she has also met other active seniors and goes on fun trips. There is always something she can get involved in such as parties, going out to eat, and recreational classes.
“JASA is a place that has active seniors and it’s a place where seniors like to do fun things. I love when we get to go on trips and go out to eat. There’s always something to do, we have parties.”
