The Yee

Yee has lived at the Cooper Square housing site for the last 20 years. Yee was born in Canton, China, but grew up in Hong Kong, which she moved to in 1957. Yee came to the USA in 1997 because of the opportunities and freedom here.

Yee learned about JASA's Cooper Square housing site through her mother-in-law, who used to be a resident. Yee originally moved to Cooper Square with her husband, but he passed away in 2006. They met in Hong Kong when their families introduced them.

"I am very happy here. Everything is perfect at Cooper Square. Living here is perfect."

One of the reasons Yee has stayed at Cooper Square is because of the fact that the cost of living in New York City has risen in recent years. She wouldn’t be able to afford to live outside of Cooper Square because the rent is expensive.

"It’s very important to have senior housing available for a lot of seniors."
